THEY PLAYED YOUR GAME!

(+1)

<3

so i clicked the link to download supervhs-win_v1.1.zip and instead got supervhs-win.zip.... which is indeed v 1.0 ?? is the link broken or misdirected ?? help please, i need those inverted controls !!

this is very upsetting if true, it’s highly possible I fucked something up (it’s my first day). I think it’s correct? It seems to be okay, based on some play throughs on YouTube. Can you check and see inverted controls in the options menu? (Not in the controls menu, where a competent person would place it)

well i am a little confused now, because just like you said, there's an option to invert controls option right where you said it would be.. but the title screen says v1.0 and the file name i get from the download isn't the one listed in the link. doesn't matter, i'm perfectly happy and thank you for the reply, i appreciate your time - oh boy do i appreciate your time, this project of yours is amazing and has given a lot of people joy, not the least of all myself. thank you :)

forgot to change the title screen :( whoops. sorry for the mixup. Thanks for checking it out!

(+3)

I rented out a haberdasher so I could tip all the hats to this work.

(+5)

This is legitimately amazing, and deserves the tag "borderline experimental"

(+5)

You can remove the "not endorsed" part of your description, since Mike and Rich Evans did a "Let's Play" for it. I think you have every right to feel validated, if you didn't before.

(1 edit) (+1)

For a second, I thought the VHS tape "Top Slots" was "Top Sluts" and was really excited and confused for a moment, but then realized my error. God bless you good sir for making this game. Hopefully, there is a VHS that exists called "Top Sluts."

(+2)

I think that's the name of the David Sedaris Collection DVD?

(+1)

I thought it was Alan Funt!

(+4)

you won the internet, thanks!

(+3)(-9)

Really well done, though I'd love if there were more unsolicited political opinions inserted by the developer. RLM is nothing if not political, after all!

(+1)

Can you give detail? Haven't played.

(+2)(-2)

(beerfish is a troll account)

(+1)(-4)

"people who do not subscribe to my exact opinions must be trolls"

(+1)

You're not a troll. I'm legitimately interested.

(+1)(-1)

Okay, beerfish. Go ahead and answer the man's question then.

What politics are pushed by RLM?

Please provide specific examples. They've over a decade of content on YT; now is your chance to expose to everyone their political rhetoric!

(N.b., You've a captive audience so please show your work, pudding.)

(+1)(-2)

It was the most obvious sarcasm I think I've ever put to text.

RLM is superbly apolitical, which is why the developer putting in multiple personal political opinions despite having no connection to RLM is so baffling.

(+3)

probably more a joke related to the earlier post that says the dev inserted political opinions into the game for some brainwormy reason

(+1)

Awesome work! Do you know how to get this to run on an Oculus Quest 2?

(+1)

you’d have to have a PC that can run it, then airlink it to your Quest

(1 edit) (+4)

love this game lol takes away the pain of my crippling diabetes

(+7)

It's so dense, every single frame has so many things going on.

(+7)

The attention to detail is amazing. If you're going to do any updates, I'd suggest a few things:

  • Performance
    • Disable shadows on the laser beams (or use the max draw distance to taper them off)
    • Something is causing the framerate to tank around the BOTW set. Are you using dynamic lights there?
  • Gameplay
    • A periodic check on tapes that haven't been found yet (except that one) to make sure they're within the repair shop, just in case they get catapulted out by the physics
    • Disable interaction on broken bottles
    • The pause menu could show the remaining tapes counter
    • Some kind of hint system, perhaps that only activates after (x) minutes or if the player has gone so long without finding a tape. I got stuck for like 5-10 minutes searching for one tape

p.s. motion blur is bad

(1 edit)

these are great notes, all worth implementing. Thank you!

p.s I like heavy film grain and CA too

(+4)

Such a cool tribute, and legitimately funny tape and item descriptions. This must have taken so much work and I salute you

(+1)

thanks for reading and playing! 🫡

(+1)

Can you release a Linux version?

(+1)

Use Proton with Steam, works great.

(+2)

Amazing, I can't imagine the hours you spent on this. Do you take feature requests, and/or would you take asset contributions or are there things you would want? Am not affiliated with RLM. Just another obsessive fan. I <3 this event or product. Will buy you coffee as soon as I can sell some blood plasma to get money.

(+1)

PS I can't remember what number tape I am on and I can't find the last several. I think I have 47 or 48. a toggle hud would be neat

HUD is definitely a good idea. Open to feature requests! But very busy on other stuff at the moment. Please save your plasma money for something else!

(+1)

This was great. Well done. I got the actual ending, I think.

(+1)

I ran off towards the powerlines,

I was never seen again..

(1 edit) (+5)

Super VHS is much less disappointing than my son.
More fun than an all expense paid trip to New Joy-see!

(+3)(-25)

You would think someone could hold off on inserting their political opinions when making an RLM fan game, but some people just can't resist I guess.

(+6)(-1)

What do you mean ?

(+2)(-1)

Deets?

(+2)(-9)

Agreed

(+1)(-2)

?

(+1)(-1)

could you tell us what medication you're on and what the rest of us can do to get access to it

(+5)

OH MY GAAAAAD!

(+4)

gave me AAAAAAAAIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSIt’s great

(+2)

You stole my thunder, but you're much better at it, so I bow down to you good sir.

Here's my attempt at Plinketto.

(1 edit)

I saw this on the subreddit and played it! It’s good + more user friendly than mine!

Thanks. My game serves a completely different purpose, but I know now that the odds of them using my game as a gag for a BotW episode just dropped to near 0 is all. Would you mind if I could use your model of the set somehow? Modeling has really held me back with development.

(+3)(-1)

Dude, you should seriously put this on Steam! Thousands of folks would buy it, no joke

I can’t sell it, it’s full of other peoples property! All the movie art, Nintendo sound effects etc

(+1)

How would I play this on a Quest 2 if I have a Mac?

(1 edit) (+7)

Congrats on getting featured on RLM! This looks like a ton of fun

(2 edits) (+5)

"I clapped- I clapped when I saw it." No seriously I did. From someone who has actually taken occasional viewing "recommendations" from BOTW, the obvious effort here is absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way. Imagining the RLM review where they gush over the VR only to realize they've forgotten to turn the headsets on and have been "playing" their actual studio.

(+1)

dude that idea rocks, they should film it with a gopro on rich's head as he wanders around picking up tapes and pretend its the game, it'd be so good

thanks for checking it out!

(+2)

I'm trying to play this on my Index and the game doesn't seem to detect my controllers. I'm just in the studio with no arms unable to move. What a nightmare

(+7)
What a nightmare

working as intended

(+1)

jk I’m not sure what’s happening, I don’t have an index to text on. Does the headset view work?

(+1)

Yeah, I can see the starting point and look around fine but the controllers don't register, and no arms or hands show up. I tried changing the controller bindings but it didn't seem to make a difference

(+1)

Frustrating. Could be this intermittent OpenXR problem, which doesn’t seem to have a clear cause or solution yet: https://forum.unity.com/threads/index-controllers-no-longer-tracked-in-openxr.1244329/

(+2)

PC restart seemed to fix it. Thanks!

Ran into an issue trying to play it through the Oculus Quest using Air Link on my Computer. The screen would become super jittery whenever I moved my head. Not sure what I can do to fix the issue. Does anyone has any solutions? I also tried it through virtual desktop, however it wont recognize the headset with that method.

what are your pc specs?

(1 edit)

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super Graphics card and 32GB of Ram.

Framerate is consistent but the camera shakes frequently whenever I move my head like it cant seem to keep track of the position of the headset.

odd, I dev’d/tested on an amd 5950x and a nvidia 1070, using a wired CV1 and Quest 1 over airlink. Can you try it with a link cable instead of wifi?

Okay so I just tried it over cable and its still the same issues unfortunately. I captured a video of it just in case you wanted to check and see what its doing.

yep link me to the vid please

Can't seem to be able to play this.

I have the 1.1 windows non-vr version and all it does is pull up steam vr, say there's no headset, and closes.

this might fix it: create a shortcut to the .exe, and then in the properties of that shortcut, add -nohmd at the end of the target field. So it would look something like

"C:\location\of\game\SuperVHS.exe" -nohmd

sorry for the hassle

(+1)

Yup, that worked.

(+4)

Just finished. so cool! u can tell u a super fan

The ultimate rlm fan game!

please create the viewing area next! then the library! then the greater milwaukee area!

cheers from melb australia

thanks for checking it out dude!

(+4)

I did it, I got the pizza rolls! Thanks for making this dude, it's the most sincere love letter I've ever seen. The amount of detail in the models is incredible.

Do you have any plans to release the models? I know that's probably asking a lot, but it'd be awesome to get this environment into Blender and mess around with it. No pressure.

I have to ask the same! I was interested in recreating the RLM areas in NEOS and this would speed that up immensely.

(+1)

This was just amazing, had a smile on my face the entire time. Thank you.

(+1)

This is quite simply breathtaking. I've been a fan of RLM since the Trek Reviews and this was like wrapping myself in a comfy duvet of familiarity.

I've just put together a little walkthrough if anyone needs it. All due respect given. Amazing work guys. Now do the offices!

fantastic, nice work!

i'm stuck at 49 tapes is there a hard to find one that i'm missing

at the base of the stairs maybe?

(+1)

found it! it was the one in the filing cabinet

(+3)

The quality of the work here speaks for itself, but you're also a damn fine musician. Couldn't find the snow music on youtube/soundcloud though, would love to listen to it outside of the game.

(+1)

wow, thank you very much! Here’s the snow music: https://evilempireau.bandcamp.com/track/machines-of-loving-grace

(+1)

The amount of detail you put into this was staggering. Every video explained and so much to see. Absolutely impressive. I got the blaster and went outside and found the lone light. Is that the end?

(+1)

Thanks! There is one more thing to do once you’ve gotten outside

Great! I walked around outside for awhile but couldn't find anything. What should I do?

(+1)

There’s one more tape at the lamp post! It has a special use

(+4)

OOOH MAAAH GAAAWD!!! What an amazing love letter to a bunch of hackfrauds who may or may not ever get to see it. Tremendously impressive, I love all the many details. I Pre-Rec was still a thing they had better play this!

(+1)

bring back Pre-Rec!

(+2)

This looks amazing, I recall seeing some models on Twitter forever ago. Amazing to see a full experience. I'll have to give it a go on my Index and see if it works.

(+1)

please do, let me know if it works okay
